Several people (most recently James Farmer) have complained that the registration requirement for commenting on e-Literate discourages them from posting comments. Obviously, this isn’t good. So I’m turning off the registration requirement.

For the moment, I’m viewing this as an experiment. As a result, I’m going to leave the various text warnings about needing to register before commenting up for at least a week. (You can ignore them; I just don’t want to futz too much with my templates until I’m sure this will be permanent.) However, if I don’t get any comment spam over the next week or so, I will make the changes permanent and remove said warnings.

In the new site design, the RSS feed is supposed to display a “read more” link at the end of a paragraph rather than cutting off mid-sentence. It doesn’t yet. What this means is that you will occasionally get a post via the RSS feed that looks like a complete thought but is actually just the first piece of the entire post. We’re working on fixing this and should have it repaired some time next week. In the meantime, please be wary of posts that look short. I usually don’t do short.

C’mon in and look around. We’re still making some minor tweaks and enhancements but I’m so excited about how it looks that I just couldn’t wait to announce it. Thanks to the folks at pMachine Services for helping me to make this happen. (more…)

The site re-design is coming along and should hopefully be up in the first half of this coming week. Posting has been slow this week, partly because I’ve been distracted with other matters (like the site re-design) and partly because I just haven’t seen a whole lot of stimulating material this week. (Hey, it happens.) I’ll be spending some time with a demo account for Jotspot and will hopefully have some things to say about it tomorrow or Monday.

This week, with the help of pMachine Services, I’ll be changing the site layout of e-Literate. The basic design will be based heavily on seriocomic, with some adjustments to fonts and headlines based on the findings of the Eyetrack III project. I’ll also be adding some show/hide code for the body of each post, so you can scan all the headlines and starting blurbs quickly without having to scroll through entire long posts.

My consulting gig basically finished up yesterday and I have at least a few days before my next big endeavor starts, so I should be able to catch up on some posting. I’m not sure how much I’ll get to today since (a) I have a lot of errands to catch up on and (b) I’m a little fried from the week, but the posting should start in earnest by tomorrow at the latest. Some highlights of what’s to come:

• A response to Stephen’s last answer in the whole pattern language/building block conversation
• An analysis of Robodemo 5 (after getting to observe it in the wild during this last consulting gig)
• Some hints regarding the site design that e-Literate will undergo in the next 1-2 weeks
• A list of new and fascinating digital democracy links
• A major give-away with lots of prizes, ranging from a year’s supply of Turtle Wax and Rice-A-Roni (“The San Franscisco Treat”) all the way up to a new car! (Well, maybe not.)

Believe it or not, I do occasionally go out and work for a living. I’m going to be tied up for a while and expect my posting rate to drop of quite a bit. I will still post on weekends at the very least, but I don’t know know if I’ll be able to get anything up on weekdays for a while.
