I just stumbled across a service called Tabblo, which provides a slick interface for pulling pictures together into an attractive layout. To my mind, it is the perfect example of how ePortfolios should be designed.To start with, it pulls photos from the user’s existing Box O’s Stuff–in this case, Flickr. (Apparently, there has been quite a bit of demand for this feature from Tabblo users because the importer has had trouble keeping up with demand. My first 10 pictures imported immediately, but the rest took overnight.)
Once the raw materials are drawn from the Box, they are put into a simple workflow with specialized tools. In this case it’s single-person workflow mostly involving some slick layout tools, but it could easily be a multi-user workflow for something like an evaluation ePortfolio that requires reviewers. And finally, it doesn’t assume that it is the end of the road for the content aggregation process. Rather, it gives a simple export tool that lets you push contents out into other applications, like so:
