I have gotten some good feedback and done some thinking regarding how to improve my interviews. I’m a bit torn, though. People seem to want shorter interviews, but I really like the long form. I hear lots of five- and ten-minute interviews, and I rarely get much of value out of them. At the same time, I appreciate that people don’t always have time to listen to an hour-long interview in one shot.
So here’s what I’m thinking about doing:
- In addition to the video, I will produce an audio-only file for each interview.
- I’ll create an enhanced podcast for the audio so that there are chapters that people can jump to.
- I’ll make the audio subscribable in iTunes or other podcatchers so that people who want to listen to the interviews don’t have to keep their browsers open to my blog the whole time and listen in one shot.
How does that sound?

I would suggest a three minute edited video with the whole hour available as well. Having a podcast (particularly of the hour long one) is a good idea.

I like the idea of a highlight video. It’s sort of like the little excerpt of a song you get in the iTunes store to help you decide if you want to buy it.

Thanks very much for not abandoning the long-video form. When I have the time I always appreciate watching/listening to them. I definitely agree that having a quick 3-5 minute video just doesn’t get the same information across.
