C’mon in and look around. We’re still making some minor tweaks and enhancements but I’m so excited about how it looks that I just couldn’t wait to announce it. Thanks to the folks at pMachine Services for helping me to make this happen. One of the many new features of the site is a show/hide for long posts. Now (at least for new posts going forward) you won’t have to scroll for ten minutes just to scan the headlines on my more…verbose days. Similarly, in the RSS and Atom feeds, you will now get the same text that is shown by default on my home page (which will be all of it, if the post is short). If the post is long, there will be a “read more…” link. No more sentences that are chopped off in the middle. There are lots of other cool features, but I’ll let you discover those for yourselves.
There are also two things that I really wanted to get in that didn’t. First, in keeping with the Eyetrack III studies, I wanted to have the post headlines on the same line as the body text. It sounds like it should be trivial to do, but because of the way EE is set up to work with certain fields, I would have had to go back and perform minor surgery on every post in order to make it work properly. Maybe next time.
The other thing I wanted to do but couldn’t was implement an Edu_RSS ticker. Unfortunately, Stephen publishes it already styled, so there was no way to re-style it in order to make it work with my site layout. Again, maybe next time.
At any rate, enjoy the new site and please don’t hesitate to let me know what you think.
